Pastoral Care

Grace Pastoral Care

At Grace Presbyterian Church, caring for one another is an essential expression of our faith. Through pastoral care, we help people stay connected to God, to their faith, and to the Grace community — especially during life’s most challenging seasons.

Pastoral care reminds us that no one walks alone. Together, we listen, pray, and discern where God is present and at work in our lives.

How Pastoral Care Helps

When someone reaches out for care, we begin by listening and exploring how Grace can best support them.
Our care may include:

  • Connecting individuals and families with local social services

  • Offering practical and emotional support for those caring for others

  • Providing guidance and encouragement for parents

  • Supporting those navigating the “sandwich generation” — caring for both children and aging family members

  • Accompanying people through grief and bereavement

The Rev. Chris Joiner, Lead Minister, provides oversight and support for all pastoral care ministries at Grace.

Pastoral Care and Support

  • Our ministers and elders are the primary providers of pastoral care. Grace also offers programs for:

    • prayer ministry

    • healing quilts

    • assistance in times of urgent need

    • visits for those in long-term care or who are homebound

  • Pastoral Care is really about being there for those who need it, and in that sense, it’s for everyone. We often support people who are:

    • in hospital

    • experiencing a significant life change

    • receiving treatment

    • celebrating a milestone

    • ill at home, or experiencing limited mobility

    • facing unemployment

    • grieving a loss

    • new to Calgary, or the community

  • You’ll find information about Parish Nurses, Prayer Requests, Homebound Visitors, and the Company of Deacons below.

Prayer Request

Prayer Requests

Homebound Visitors

Grace has a team of trained Homebound Visitors who regularly connect with members who are no longer able to attend worship as often as they would like.

Company of Deacons

Deacons are lay leaders commissioned by the Session of Grace Presbyterian Church to serve specific areas of pastoral ministry. Each Deacon is trained and equipped to offer spiritual and practical support.
